A self-taught artist, Gary Stevens has been working with wood for almost 25 years. Born in San Francisco, California in 1957, he now resides in Soquel, California - just above the beautiful Monterey Bay. It is here in his studio, surrounded by towering redwoods, Gary has transformed his inspirations into turned works of art. The woods that Gary uses primarily are Redwood Lace Burl, Madrone Burl, and Douglas Fir. He harvests these beautiful pieces of wood from his own property. Gary is environmentally sensitive and uses mostly wood from fallen trees or from stumps of trees that were logged long ago.
