This photo shows Gary with a few Douglas
Fir stumps. He calls these
"The Forgotten Christmas Trees". The previous property owner planted
over 500 Christmas Trees and never harvested a single one. The trees are
now 40-60 feet tall and only 10 feet apart. Gary is selectively thinning
them-turning the tree into firewood, and the stumps are trimmed, cleaned
and mounted on the lathe.
Douglas Fir is generally not used for wood turning, but Gary has found that
the stumps and the roots make absolutely stunning vessels.
