Nature surrounds and touches this home from every window, every angle, every magical viewshed that opens itself up to a vast realm of the senses. The property is infused with an almost elemental connection to the landforms and the richness of flora and fauna that are held gently in its midst. Hawks circle overhead. The breeze carries the soft whinny of a horse. A Mother quail shepherds her covey across a  quiet country lane only to disappear into the vastness of native grasses in a sun-browned meadow. Forests on a distant ridgeline are perfectly framed by the custom wood casings of eight foot glass windows and doors. Constantly changing orientations of light move through the day and  across the Bay as the water changes color with the seasons. At night, small softly lit neighbors inhabit adjoining hilltops. A nearby redwood grove stretches skyward towards infinite blueness while a dark loamy carpet adorned with graceful ferns thrives at the feet of its shaded roots. Ancient oaks point to open meadows – their gnarled limbs bundled with the weavings of Spanish moss highlighted by the embers of an afternoon’s filtered sun.

Deer travel their own timeless paths through the countryside. A trio of horses and riders crosses the open space of a ridge not too far – only to disappear down a man-made trail on the other side. The sounds of silence. The white tails of small bunnies that come out in the early evenings to hop on a green, grassy lawn. Squirrels leaping in defiance of gravity from limb to limb of the madrones and oaks.

A private sensing of a secret world that  continues on to merge just over the next hill, just beyond the next valley, just beyond the  waning twilight on the other side of the Monterey Bay where the earth turns and the sun continues to shine. A daily meditation.
